Navigating the Maze: An Olympian’s Journey into IOM Model Yachting

In 2020, I embarked on an entirely new chapter of my sailing career—one that, despite decades at the highest levels of competition, proved more challenging than anticipated. Transitioning from full-sized yachts to International One Metre (IOM) model yachting should have been straightforward. But instead, it was a labyrinth of scattered resources, fragmented knowledge, and trial-and-error craftsmanship.
As a former dinghy world champion, Olympic campaigner, yacht skipper, and tactician, I approached the challenge with the same analytical precision that had guided my previous racing career. Yet, finding cohesive guidance on IOM construction, tuning, and racing was anything but simple. The information was dispersed across various forums, personal blogs, and legacy sites—none of which offered a comprehensive roadmap.
Determined to bridge this gap, I documented my journey. Not merely as a technical exercise, but as an effort to consolidate and refine the existing wisdom of the IOM sailing community. Alongside established methodologies, I introduced my own racing insights and showcased my **Alternative build** in glass epoxy, designed for resilience and performance.
This website is more than just an account of my experience; it is a resource. A guide for newcomers struggling through the same maze of incomplete information. A reference for seasoned sailors seeking new perspectives. If there are valuable sources I’ve overlooked, I welcome contributions—send me the links, and I’ll ensure they become part of this growing knowledge base.
